Sentencing Studies
The Vermont Center for Justice Research maintains an Adjudication Database that contains all Vermont District Court prosecutions for felony and motor vehicle charges since 1986, and all Vermont District Court prosecutions for misdemeanor charges since 1988. The database contains a wide variety of variables related to arrest, charging, arraignment, disposition, and sentencing processes in Vermont. Using the Adjudication Database staff are able to conduct a variety of studies related to case processing and sentencing practices in Vermont.Though downloads of the database are not permitted due to confidentiality restrictions, Center staff do accept requests from criminal justice agencies, the legislature, attorneys, and researchers to analyze the database regarding Vermont sentencing and adjudication practices.
