Residential Treatment

Have you or someone you love ever been involuntarily discharged from a residential drug treatment program? Did you experience harm as a result (incarceration, homelessness, overdose, sexual exploitation, prolonged relapse or other harm)?

Please share your story by leaving a comment below.

Please remember, any information you post is public.

IMPORTANT: Involuntary discharge from residential treatment programs can cause serious harm to vulnerable people seeking treatment for a substance use disorder. Discharge should never be the response to minor rule violations or use/relapse, but if often is. And in many cases residential treatment programs fail to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the person they are subjecting to sudden and unplanned discharge, such as arranging for transfer and transportation to another safe, residential setting.
